The Kitchen

What is the most important room of the house? I am building a new home and have decided to be my own contractor. I wanted to do this because I want to pick and choose where I want certain rooms, how big I want this or that room, or if I want a pantry or not, etc. After choosing these things, I got to thinking about which room I want to be the center of my main floor. I want this room to be the one everybody has to walk through and I wanted it to be a room that I could make comfy and welcoming. I decided the kitchen would be perfect because once they walk in the house they will walk through it and I will get a chance to catch up on how their day has been. I also wanted to have a little breakfast nook in the kitchen close to the front door so that my family could all sit together for a minute before they had to walk out the door in the morning. I also thought about how great it would be to have the kitchen open to the living room, so I could be somewhat involved when my family is in there watching the t.v or playing games, while I would be making dinner. I also loved that I was able to get a good feel about the house by looking at picture of the house decorated and I was even able to look at the virtual tour of the house. It was very helpful to see if I really wanted my kitchen to be open to my living room. It also showed a couple of house plans that had the breakfast nook connected to the kitchen.
